4.7 Evaluation

We discuss the performance evaluation criteria and data sets used in this section. We then show the evaluation results of the performance and overhead of the proposed SAFE approach, compared with a file-level deduplication that JustCloud [9] and Mozy [11] use, a fixed-size block deduplication that Dropbox [4] uses, and variable-size block deduplication schemes.

4.7.1 Metrics

The major performance metrics are the deduplication ratio and incurred data traffic amount. The deduplication ratio indicates how much storage space can be saved by removing redundancies and is computed using Eq. (4.1):
